Acupuncture and Cupping
Dr. Priscilla Tang practices two types of acupuncture and cupping: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based or biomechanical based.
The former involves correcting disharmony in the body, and has vast applications. It is often done for hormone regulation, fertility and other pregnancy concerns, stress, insomnia, acne, neuropathy, digestive issues, and difficulties with respiration (breathing) – just to name a few.
Biomechanical acupuncture is often used for musculoskeletal pain or sport rehabilitation, and is considered a more Western approach. Electro-acupuncture involves the application of a stimulation machine to the acupuncture needles for additional stimulation of Qi, to support healing, and decrease pain. Dry needle trigger point release is a favourite of Dr. Tang, as it often provides quick relief of pain and helps to improve quality of life.
Often it is recommended to do a minimum of 6 weekly sessions to get the most benefit from acupuncture. However, the frequency of treatments needs to be evaluated on an individual basis.
