Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is usually found in three forms: tinctures (alcohol-based extracts), teas, and supplements (capsules, tablets, etc). Some herbs are better in one form versus the other, based on the active constituent you would like to activate. Herbs often have fewer side effects and provide systemic benefits rather than a targeted action, as many plants have multiple modes of action.
Herbs have a wide range of applications, and are especially useful to regulate hormones, decrease stress, anxiety, and depression, improve sleep, and aid in digestion.
There are certain herbs to be avoided in pregnancy, breast-feeding, in children and with certain pharmaceuticals. Consult your naturopathic doctor before starting any herbal regime.
